Welcome to the Barnes Sports Clinic website. The Barnes Sports Clinic is a highly professional private physiotherapy practice and rehabilitation centre. We were established in 1983 by Chartered Physiotherapist Stephen Barnes. We are conveniently situated on the main A4 road 3 miles southeast of the Georgian city of Bath.

The Barnes Sports Clinic provides a diverse array of services ranging from general physiotherapy and sports therapy to personal training, health and fitness screening and sports and remedial massage. We have one of the most comprehensively equipped rehabilitation gymnasiums in private practice, reflecting the emphasis we place on physical exercise in your recovery protocols.

We are a Bupa-registered clinicBarnes Sports Clinic accepts all major health insurance policies as payment, including AXA (PPP), Aviva and Standard Life. We are also a Bupa-registered clinic. If you wish to pay through your heath insurance, please telephone the clinic with a copy of your policy details so that we may take the relevant information.

Alongside the clinic, we also run Barnes School of Sports Therapy, where we host accredited courses to help you become a sports professional. The school has its own website here (opens new window). March 2019: In line with our continuing philosophy of keeping up to date with the latest clinical developments, on the 22nd March 2019 we had a further visit from Professor Tim Watson. Tim is a highly respected expert in the field of medical electrotherapy and travels all over the world giving seminars and instruction on its safe and effective use as an integral part of physiotherapy. Both Steve and Matthew spent the day with Tim at Barnes Sports Clinic learning about the latest developments and research in electrotherapy and its practical application.

March 2014: We were recently visited by Professor Tim Watson who is a Fellow of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, Professor of Physiotherapy at the University of Hertfordshire, and a world leading expert on electrotherapy. Our physiotherapist Steve Barnes and our senior sports therapist Matthew Barnes both benefitted from personal tuition and assessment from Professor Watson on the most cutting-edge, evidence-based applications of the various modalities collectively known as electrotherapy. This means that the patients of Barnes Sports Clinic will now benefit from the most up-to-date electrotherapy treatment concepts and applications, allowing for even more efficient treatment protocols.

In conjunction with Professor Watson's visit, Barnes Sports Clinic has added a new LIPUS (Low Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound) machine to the range of treatment options we currently offer. Treatment with this machine has shown extraordinary success in accelerating the healing process for fractures. This, of course, is useful for anyone who has sustained a fracture, but is of particular importance for reducing healing time for competitive athletes, such as rugby players, footballers and motocross riders.
